Bibivi

Bibivi is a painter, illustrator, and graphic artist whose work is situated within contemporary figuration, where the image is simplified to its essence while retaining its emotional power.

Her practice engages in dialogue with the traditions of modern art and Neo-Pop culture, drawing inspiration from artists such as Alex Katz, Julian Opie, Andy Warhol, and David Hockney, whose explorations of portraiture, color, and visual culture have profoundly influenced the language of contemporary art.

From these references, Bibivi develops her own visual universe in which the human figure and everyday characters are transformed into direct, recognizable images charged with atmosphere. Her compositions combine defined lines, flat colors, and a graphic aesthetic, creating a bridge between painterly tradition and contemporary visual culture.

Born in Barcelona and based in Madrid, her creative process brings together traditional techniques—such as watercolor, acrylic painting, and printmaking—with digital tools, photography, and experimentation with animated imagery. This combination of media allows her to expand the pictorial language toward new forms of representation where analog and digital processes coexist naturally.

Primarily self-taught, Bibivi has further developed her practice through workshops with established artists and at institutions such as the Escuela de Arte La Palma, Escuela de Arte Creart, and the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art spaces both in Spain and internationally, including Italy, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong, through solo and group exhibitions that have consolidated her contemporary approach and distinctive visual language.

Bibivi – Artist Statement

I paint what I feel when observing the world rather than simply what I see. My work seeks to distill reality into clear, essential forms, removing the superfluous in order to capture the immediacy of a moment and its emotional resonance.

Through a minimalist visual language, I use bold black lines and flat areas of color to transform everyday figures and scenes into direct, recognizable images. By reducing visual information to its essentials, I aim to communicate atmosphere, emotion, and presence with the fewest possible elements.

My practice is influenced by Bauhaus principles, Neo-Pop aesthetics, fashion, design, and contemporary visual culture. I combine traditional media—such as watercolor and acrylic painting—with digital tools, photography, and animated imagery, creating a natural dialogue between analog and digital processes.

I am interested in achieving a sense of minimal elegance and digital clarity, exploring how technology continues to transform the way we perceive images and experience the world.

Ultimately, my work is about capturing fleeting moments of observation, transforming them into visual symbols that reflect a contemporary way of seeing—where simplicity, color, and form convey both immediacy and emotion.

“Reducing reality to its essence to capture the emotion of the moment.” Bibivi
